Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have ‘three incredible centre-backs’ – but has not ruled out adding another to his squad.
City have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire this summer, with Vincent Kompany having left the Premier League champions to join Anderlecht as a player-coach.
When asked if he is in the market for a new central defender to replace Kompany, Guardiola responded: “There is a chance but I don’t know if it is possible.
“If not we have three incredible centre-backs and Fernandinho can play in that position.”
Guardiola has not confirmed publicly whether Maguire is on his radar, and the City boss appears relaxed about whether City do any more business in this transfer window.
City have so far brought in Rodri from Atletico Madrid,
left-back Angelino from PSV Eindhoven and goalkeeper Zack Steffen from Columbus Crew for a combined cost of around £80million.
“We are so happy with the squad we have,” said Guardiola. “I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market.
“I don’t know if players are going to leave or players are going to come.”
Guardiola was speaking in China ahead of City’s Premier League Trophy final against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Shanghai on Saturday afternoon.
He also discussed the continued rumours over Leroy
Sane’s future, with Bayern Munich having publicly expressed their interest in the German winger.
Guardiola insisted there had been no contact from Bayern and he was not planning to sell the 23-year-old.
“For a long time they talk about their interest but Leroy is our player and hopefully he can stay next season and next season and next season,” added the City boss.
